GBV - gender-based violence is interpreted in information sources as a violation of human rights and freedom, which is directed against a certain gender.
If it is simpler, then it is causing harm to a person of a different article than the offender himself.
GBV is mostly seen as violence against women, which is mostly perpetrated by men. But men can also become victims of domestic violence (bright manifestations - street violence, clashes). Separately, we can single out violence directed towards men and people from the LGBTIQ+ community.
Most often we hear about cases of physical or sexual violence. But this is not a complete list.
Usually, everything starts with psychological violence, when a person can verbally insult, devalue another, such as "You wouldn't have succeeded without me", "You look terrible today, take care of yourself". This is repeated again and again and becomes a certain norm for a person. This can be reinforced by the fact that a person wishes us only the best and does it only because others will never tell us the "truth".
Next, economic violence can be added, when a person nearby tries to control our financial situation, limit us in pocket money (if we have a joint budget) or do not give us funds for personal use at all. A person can also take our funds.
Quite often in a relationship, it looks quite romanticized, when a partner asks not to go to work and promises to provide everything that the other person will need. And then, at one point, he either controls all expenses, or strictly limits the amount of funds provided, or buys everything for his home on his own, even hygiene products for his partner.
All this is accompanied by the imposition of a sense of shame and guilt on the offender. Therefore, quite often victims of violence can be sure that they themselves are to blame for the fact that they are "not trusted" or that they themselves "provoke" such behavior.
